Commandments Of A Healthy Summer If you’re getting ready to head out for a summer vacation in a week or so, you might be feeling a little anxiety about what it means for your diet and workout plan. Will all your hard work go out the window? The fact is, it doesn’t have to. You just need to decide that you will do what it takes to keep your body healthy and on track. Here are four commandments to remember about a healthy summer vacation. Thou Shall Get Active In The Morning If there’s one thing to promise yourself, it should be that you’ll focus on getting some activity in each morning. As the day progresses on, you’ll find it harder and harder to carve away some time for activity, so make it a point to do it before your day gets busy. Head out and perform a 10-minute brisk walk, session of stairs (in the hotel) or a basic circuit training program in your room. All are great ways to get the activity you need in. Thou Shall Limit Liquid Calories Next, keep your liquid calories under control. This is perhaps the biggest downfall too many people experience. Whether it’s with fruit flavored drinks, smoothies, milkshakes, or alcoholic beverages, those liquid calories add up fast and will quickly set you back in your day. Thou Shall Get 8-10 Fruits And Vegetables A Day You’ll also want to be sure that you are focusing on getting your 8-10 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables each and every day. The great thing is that there are plenty of seasonal fruits now available, so you should have no problem doing this. Thou Shall Not Rationalize Finally, whatever you do, don’t get into the habit of rationalizing . Some people will state that it’s okay for them to eat poorly because they are ‘on holiday’. Just because you are on holiday, it doesn’t give you a free pass to eat what you want. Remember that. You’ll still have to suffer the consequences of doing so. At the same time, don’t expect perfection from yourself. If you have a treat from time to time, that’s perfectly okay. It’s all about balance. If you keep these points in mind, you should have no problem staying healthy as your summer holidays roll around. Focus on enjoying the occasion and less about the food and/or break from exercise.
