Vibration Machines: Do These Actually Help You Lose Weight? You’ve probably seen them before. Whether you were at a trade show and watched as people stood on, jiggling their body or you’ve simply seen an infomercial late at night before bed, vibration machines are one of the fitness trends that seem to catch most people’s attention. Are these beneficial at all? They sure look silly, but could they actually work? Here’s a few points to remember. The Real Cause Of Fat Burning Before we even get into a discussion on vibration machines, it’s important to remind yourself of what actually causes fat burning to take place. Fat burning is the result of a calorie imbalance in the body. Basically, you are burning off more calories than you are consuming over the course of the day. If you eat 2000 calories per day and burn up 2500 calories, that additional 500 calories of energy has to come from somewhere. That somewhere is typically your body fat stores. So the moral of the story here is that if you want to lose body fat, you need to consume fewer calories than you burn off. Simple as that – Try this tool . What Vibration Machines Will Do So what do vibration machines do? Basically, they cause small contractions to take place in the muscle tissues as your body vibrates and you try and stay balanced. These small contractions may cause you to burn a few calories, which then, may help increase your total daily calorie burn. But, overall, we are talking peanuts here. Maybe 50 calories if you do it long enough – or less. So in the grand scheme of things, these vibration machines will not ‘shake off’ the weight for you. They will hardly have you burning any more calories above baseline. What they can do however is help preserve lean muscle mass tissue. Now, if you normally squat 100 pounds, they are not going to help you give up squatting and still maintain the same strength. But, if you are pretty much bed ridden for some reason and need to prevent complete muscle wasting, vibration machines may help you achieve that. So for those who are seriously injured, they may offer some slight benefit there. What Vibration Machines Will Not Do What vibration machines will not do is increase your fitness level, provide significant fat burning, or help improve your muscular strength. They may be a bit fun to use and give you a good laugh (and laughing can actually work your ab muscles!) but beyond that, they won’t do much. So if you are ever tempted to use one of these machines in effort to reach your weight loss goals, really rethink that. It just isn’t going to provide the results that you are hoping for and with a pretty hefty price tag, you’ll be disappointed in your purchase.
