Why Have A Mid-Year Resolution June is officially the half way point of the year. That means you only have a few more weeks to work on your mid-year resolution Oh, you’ve never heard of the mid year resolution ? Well, it could very well change your life. The mid-year resolution is a lot like a New Year’s resolution, except it’s one you’ll actually be able to keep. You may be one of the few that are able to keep your New Year’s resolutions, but the reality is that most people don’t. June is the kickoff to summer in North America, and a time when the weather really takes a turn for the better. Creating a mid year resolution is going to prevent you from using the weather as an excuse to put off that life-changing resolution. Quite frankly, winter is a bummer. Sorry winter, but it’s true. You’re cold, grey and depressing. Having a mid-year resolution will allow you to tackle your hardest changes with the warm sun on your face, and a lot of motivation and renewal in your spirit. There’s just something about spring weather and the changing landscape that makes things a lot easier. The mid-year resolution is still a relatively new thing, so you won’t have the distraction of all the other resolution drop-outs clouding your judgement. Even though your resolution was to work out more, it’s easy to stop going to the gym the second week in January when all your friends are quitting as well. Hitting the gym in June, you’re only going to meet people that have a level of commitment that will inspire you to continue. No one will ask you about your mid-year resolution, so you no longer need to care about sounding like you’re committed. If you’re lying about your resolution, you’re only lying to yourself in June. Use this opportunity to create a realistic goal and put forth some real meaningful change in your life. After all, it’s just for you. No one is watching. If you’re resolving to do less of something, the summertime is a great place to start. You’ll be traveling more, taking vacations, and visiting family. It’s the perfect time to swear off video games, Netflix and that addictive TV show where all the contestants get eliminated. Their season is ending anyway, so fill that void something sustainable, and develop a pattern over the summer you can keep up. Even just a resolution to read more will be infinitely more effective in June than January. Grab a book and sit under a tree, read it at the beach, and enjoy being outside. Once you start reading without all the distractions of your indoor environment, it’ll be easier to finish the book. Once you finish one book, you’ll want to finish more. The mid-year resolution isn’t designed to be tied in to a big event like New Years. By the time New Year’s Day rolls around, your Christmas holidays are ending, and you’re slipping back into the regular routine. In June, there’s no mundane life to creep in. Summer is all about adventure. It’s the perfect time to start something new. What are you waiting for? Get out there as start your mid-year resolution!
